Esther R. Ore, age 83 of Erie and formerly of East 43rd St., died on Thursday January 19, 2012 at UPMC Hamot Medical Center, following an extended illness.
She was born in Erie on July 31, 1928, a daughter of the late Andrew and Louise Longnecker Williams.
Esther was a 1946 graduate of Strong Vincent High School and was a secretary for School Pictures Company. She was a founding member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, where she was on the Ladies Guild and also a member of the first board for the Bingo Committee. Esther truly enjoyed spending time with her family she loved to go camping with the Erie Family Campers and enjoyed her winters in Spring Hill, FL.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by nine siblings; Louise, Chuck, Rob, Fred, Margaret, Florence, Frances, Roy and Elmer, and one son-in-law Lavern Murphy.
Esther is survived by the love of her life Walter G. Ore, whom she married on December 31, 1949, the six children they raised; Kathy Ore, Robert Ore and his wife Patty, Jeanne O’Leary and her husband David, Beverly Trabert all of Erie, Thomas Ore and his wife Marie of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Bill Ore and his wife Jane of Marietta, PA, grandchildren; Jason Ore, Becky Buona, Jennifer Richardson, Daniel Fillak, Deanna O’Leary, David, Julia, Michael and Ann Ore, Tony, Jessica and Katelyn Trabert and Wes and Preston Holsinger, 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc. 5000 Wattsburg Rd. Erie 16504 (Corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave.) on Saturday from 2 to 5 PM and 7 to 9 PM with a Blessing Service to be held at 8:00 PM on Saturday evening. Interment is private and will be held at the convenience of the family.
