Obituary for Thomas E. Smith
Thomas E. Smith, 71, of Summit Township, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Western Reserve following an extended illness. He was born in Erie on October 13, 1947 a son of the late Clarence and Elizabeth Clausen Smith.
Tom attended Erie Tech Memorial and proudly served in the United States Army. He worked at Litton Shipyard and went on to work at GE for over 30 years before retiring. He was a member of Summit United Methodist Church and enjoyed classic cars and music, especially the oldies. He also enjoyed making wine and was proud of the large greenhouse he built. Tom enjoyed vacationing and spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Don Smith; his half-sisters, Barbara Smith, Virginia McCall, and Vivian Eshbaugh; and his half-brothers, Edward, James, Wayne, and Vernon Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Deena Wilson Smith; one daughter, Tonya Schott and her husband, John, of Erie; two grandchildren, Ethan and Hannah; three brothers, Gifford Smith and his wife, Joanne, of Erie, Rodger Smith and his wife, Danielle, of Corry, and Fred Smith and his wife, Eileen, of Erie; his half-brother, Glenn Smith and his wife, Bernese, of Strattanville, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will not be observed and a memorial service will be held at a future date.
