Obituary for Carol M. Conner (Barlow)

Carol Mae Barlow Conner, 85, of Millcreek, died peacefully on November 22, 2018. She was born in Jamestown, NY on September 21, 1933, the daughter of Percy and Levina Barlow.

Carol loved being a nurse. A graduate of the Hamot School of Nursing, she spent 25 years at Hamot Medical Center where she became second shift nursing supervisor. She continued this work even in her retirement, both through involvement with the Hamot Retirees Social Group and as a long-time volunteer at St. Paul’s Neighborhood Free Clinic.

Carol loved to sew and was an avid member of the North Coast Sewing Guild. She would often display her love of cats, nursing, and sewing in her accessories and outfits. She enjoyed riding her bike, reading mystery novels, and catching up on all the latest happenings in long conversations. Her outgoing personality and no-nonsense nature made her a natural leader and social connector. Through her varied interests and activities she had an impact on many people, as a caregiver, role model, and friend.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Shirley Smith and Elizabeth Steinbaugh; and her brother, Harry Barlow.

She is survived by husband of 67 years, Clarence Leroy Conner; her daughter Terry Lepo and her husband, Charles, and her granddaughters Kelly Lepo and her husband Nick Adelson and Haley Yaple her husband, Robert. Carol’s last day was brightened with news of a great-grandchild on the way.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 5000 Wattsburg Rd. on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Burial will be private in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Free Clinic - 1608 Walnut Street Erie, PA 16502.
