Obituary for Carol Winschel (Kupniewski)

Carol Kupniewski Winschel, 69, of Greene Twp., passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her residence following a lengthy illness on Thursday July 12, 2018. She was born in Erie on July 23, 1948 a daughter of the late Walter and Sophie Radomski Kupniewski.

Carol graduated from St. Benedict's Academy and attended DeLima College. She worked at Hamot Medical Center with outpatient registration for a number of years. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her niece, Natalie Russ; her nephew, Robbie Walker; her great niece, Skyelynn Hess; and her father in law, Edward Winschel.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Robert Winschel; one daughter, Melissa Saffrin and her husband, Paul, of Orchard Park, NY; one son, James Winschel and his wife, Anna, of Erie; six grandchildren who were her life, Sophia, Olivia, and Fiona Saffrin and Aiden, Elliot, and Francesca Winschel; two sisters, Kathy Hess and her husband, Glenn, of Phoenix, AZ and Cindy Russ and her significant other, John Stewart, of Peoria, AZ; her caregiver Heidi Macrino; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Monday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will follow in Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery.
