Obituary for Joseph E. Neilsen Sr.

Joseph  E.  Neilsen Sr.
Joseph E. Neilsen, Sr., 75, passed away Friday, March 9, 2018, at his residence. He was born in Erie, PA, on November 8, 1942, the son of the late Charles C. and Clara Stipe Neilsen.
Joe graduated from Tech Memorial High School in 1961. He worked for Eriez Magnetics for nine and a half years and was a sheet metal specialist at American Sterilizer for over 27 years retiring in 2005. Joe served in the United States Naval Reserves and was a proud supporter of “Made in America” products. He was a member of St. Boniface Church. Joe enjoyed gardening, woodworking, bowling, playing golf and especially loved spending time playing with his grandchildren. He was an avid Oakland Raiders fan for over 55 years. Joe always said, “he had a wonderful life”.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Marjorie Warren; his three sisters, Mary Jane Rathburn, Cecelia Harvey, and Claradora Burnette; and his brother, John “Jack” Neilsen.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Esther Ann Neilsen, the “love of his life”; his five children, Christine Grabowski and her husband, John of Erie, Joseph Neilsen, Jr. and his wife Selena, of NC, Eric Neilsen and his wife Carmen of Brussels, Belgium, Patience Breinholt and her husband, Kai, of AZ, and Noel Attridge and her husband Robert, of AZ; his nine grandchildren, Joey Money, Daniel Grabowski, Madeline Money, Olivia Neilsen, Inara Breinholt, Sagan Breinholt, Evelyn Attridge, Amy Baker, and Kimberly Ruddy-Breinholt; two great-grandchildren, Bree Ann and Noah Baker; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and the following morning at St. Boniface Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Church - 9367 Wattsburg Rd, Erie, PA 16509 or to Great Lakes Hospice - 1700 Peach St. #244, Erie, PA 16501.
