Obituary for Randall S. "Randy" Whiteman

Randy (Randall Scott) Whiteman, age 52, former resident of Erie, PA and more recently of Trumbull, CT, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 21. Randy was born in Erie on November 11, 1965 to the late Douglas E. and Constance C. (Connie) Sitter Whiteman.
A 1984 graduate of Cathedral Prep, Randy was a lifelong parishioner of St. Peter’s Cathedral, where he served as a lector. During his time in Connecticut, he attended Mass at the St. Catherine of Siena parish in Trumbull. Randy earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Communications from Gannon University, and went on to complete graduate work toward a Master’s degree in English Literature. For 12 years, Randy worked as a call specialist for Verizon of Erie. Prior to this, Randy had helped out at the family bowling center in Hornell, NY for several years. Most recently, he worked as a retail associate for Kohl’s in Connecticut.
He was always passionate about many types of music - Randy was an avid collector, with hundreds of record singles and albums dating from the 1960’s onward. Music facts were important to Randy, who often quoted the Billboard Top 100 both in-person and online. In his adult life, Randy was a fitness and health enthusiast, weight-training for body-building competitions as a member of Erie’s Real Training & Fitness. He also was the Republican candidate for the office of Erie County Clerk of Records in 1993 and 2009.
Randy took pride in writing, and is best remembered for the love and care that went into each of the many notes, letters, and cards that he wrote to family and friends.
He will be missed by his five siblings: Douglas Whiteman Jr. and his husband Cliff O’Neill of Jupiter, FL, Jamie Whiteman and his wife Marian of Trumbull, CT, Penny Houghtaling and her husband William of Willoughby, OH, Shari Johnson and her husband Robert of Olmsted Falls, OH, and Jeffrey Whiteman of Struthers, OH; likewise, Uncle Randy’s loss has been felt by six nephews: Simon and Teddy Whiteman, Ryan, Zachary, Joshua and his wife Kaitlin Houghtaling, and Keifer Johnson.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Peter's Cathedral at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will follow in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
