Fleda Ann (Faull) West Ferraro, 81, journeyed to her Heavenly home surrounded by her family on October 22, 2017 after a valiant battle through Alzheimer ’s disease.
Fleda was born September 25, 1936 to Lulu Bell and Donald Faull in Grove City, PA. She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Al Ferraro; daughters, Lori West and husband, Tim Pitstick of Dayton, OH, Lynda West of Pittsburgh and Amy and husband, Steve Fetzner of Erie and son, John and wife, Kathy of Denver, CO.
Fleda had six grandchildren, Nicole Ware (Dan), Kristina West, Emily West, Terra Jablonski, Richard Fetzner and Ellie Fetzner and a great-granddaughter, Ruby Ware. She is survived by her sister, Lynda Bortz and husband, Tom of Grove City. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 34 years, Richard “Dick” West in 1990. Also survived by four step-children, Tom (Cathy) Ferraro, Frank (Ginnean) Ferraro, Patty (Mark) Bruno and Julia Ferraro.
Fleda was a 1954 graduate of Grove City High School and completed her undergraduate at Edinboro University, later attaining her master's degree in education through a state accredited program.
Fleda was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, an extraordinary hostess, very artistically accomplished and a loving friend to many. She was a brilliant musician and pianist and she taught school for 30 years, retiring from Joanna Connell School in 1998. She was a member of the Erie Philharmonic Choir for 30 years. Fleda loved to travel, she was an avid patron of the arts in many cities and she volunteered for many years in the arts community of Erie. She loved to play golf and enjoyed being in a league for many years.
Fleda’s faith sustained her through many challenges, especially her husband Dick’s illness over 10 years. She was blessed to be part of the Cursillo Movement of Erie, her special GR group and their couples. She had been a member of The First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Erie and sang with the choir.
Fleda’s family would like to thank the staff of West Lake Woods and VNA Hospice for their loving and tender care.
A Celebration of Fleda’s life will be held Friday, November 3rd at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd, Erie, PA. Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a service at 1:00 with the Rev. Harry Johns officiating. Fleda’s final resting place is in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Erie. Donations may be made to Erie Philharmonic Chorus at 23 West 10th Street, Suite 3, Erie, PA 16501 or the Young People’s Chorus of Erie, Penn State Behrend, 4213 Station Road, Logan Carriage House, Erie, PA 16563 in Fleda’s memory.
