Obituary for Michael A. Langdon

Michael A. Langdon
Michael A. Langdon, age 71, of Erie, passed away on Tuesday, October 17th. He is survived by his wife Ginny, his five children—John Abbott and wife Marybel, Lori Gillette, Heather Kowalczyk and husband Matthew, Vicki Langdon, and Beth Merritt and husband David—fifteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Michael was a 1964 graduate of Ft LeBoeuf HS and a longtime employee of Johnson Controls as a tool and die maker.
Michael was a true patriot. As a former Marine helicopter Crew Chief, he fought in Vietnam to protect freedoms he would spend the rest of his life enjoying, such as owning multiple properties, travelling freely to Florida, golfing and fishing whenever he could, and practicing faith in his own way.
Michael was proud and stubborn. He stubbornly refused to admit his body was failing, but he also stubbornly protected the source of his pride, which came from an honest, hidden place where love for his wife, his children, their families, and the Maker of them all, dwelt. His pride sometimes manifested as grumpiness after tasting defeat at golf, cards, board games, or by the Steelers. But his greatest pride, which only revealed itself in glimpses, was in building his family tree into a far-reaching legacy built on genuine love, humble generosity, and never-ending fellowship. He demonstrated this by freely giving his time, energy, and money in any way his family needed, without fail.
A family-friendly picnic in celebration of Michael’s life will be held at Picnicana Park (9150 Old French Road, Waterford) on Saturday, October 21st, 12-3pm.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Peace River Civic Association golf course, addressed to Ed LeBarge, in memory of Mike Langdon, at 29198 Crawford Ave, Punta Gorda, FL 33982.
