Joy L.  Downs (Stitt)
Joy L. Stitt Downs, age 69, of Erie, formerly of New Bethlehem, PA, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the Cleveland Clinic. She was born in Kittanning, PA on May 30, 1948, the daughter of the late Jack and Twila Brocious Stitt.
Joy worked for the Millcreek School District as a cafeteria manager for 27 years, retiring in 2010. She attended the Community Christian Church. Joy was a Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Indians fan. She enjoyed reading and listening to music and loved her dog “Max”. Joy was a very generous and kind-hearted person, who privately reached out to those in need. She was known as the “card lady”, always sending out cards to others for various occasions.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Jack and James Stitt.
Survivors include her husband, Darl Downs; her son, Brendan Downs, of Erie; her four sisters, Judy Crawford (Sam), Sandy Scales (Dallas), Joni Huffman (Rodney), and Jeri Skinner (Jared); and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 5000 Wattsburg Rd. Erie, PA 16504, on Friday from 2 to 4 pm. and are invited to a funeral service the following morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Oakland Church of God - 122 Kohlersburg Rd, Distant, PA 16223. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to a children's charity of one's choice in memory of Joy.
