Martha J Carniewski, 77 years old, a life long resident of Erie, PA died on Sunday, August 13, 2017 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Erie, PA on April 8, 1940, the daughter of the late Leo Blore and Marjorie Traphagen Blore.
Martha was raised on the family farm and attended Wattsburg High School. During those years she was a cheerleader, athlete and won several pie baking contests.
Martha was a great homemaker, wonderful mother and good friend to many. She also worked at the Erie County Technical School and Walmart retiring in 2001. After retiring she spent many winters in Florida with her companion Harold Koepka. Martha was an avid golfer, recording a hole in one at Venango Valley Golf Course. She excelled at any kind of word game and was nearly unbeatable at Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years Robert Carniewski, brother Bernard Blore, her sisters Lois O’Conner and Virginia Kuhn, brothers in law Richard Coatoam, Harold O’Conner and Daniel Kuhn and her very dear friend Kay Sorvelli.
Martha is survived by her children Rich Carniewski(Michele), Karleen Johnston(Bob), Jason Carniewski(Denise) all of Erie, her twin sister Mary Coatoam and brother Richard Blore(Mary) and her 5 grandchildren Chelsea and Rebecca Johnston , Joshua , Jacob and Ryan Carniewski and many nieces and nephews.
The family thanks the staff of Pleasant Ridge Manor for the care and kindness shown to our mother.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd, on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m.. Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
