Edward J.  Gorniak
Edward J. Gorniak, 86, of Greene Township, entered through the Heavenly gates on Thursday July 27, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Erie on July 25, 1931 a son of the late John and Stephanie Sklarzeski Gorniak.

Edward graduated from Academy High School and served in the Unites States Army during the Korean War. He was self-employed his entire life in various fields and most recently was owner of North East Lanes. He enjoyed being his own boss. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and also enjoyed tinkering, working with his hands, and his fried Spam sandwiches. He especially loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Charlotte R. Decker Gorniak.

Survivors include one son, Steven Gorniak and his wife, Ann Marie, of Wattsburg; two daughters, Rebecca Artis and her life partner, Erskine Cole, and Vicki Gorniak, all of Erie; four brothers, Jerry Gorniak and his wife, Norma, of Erie, Bernie Gorniak of Cape Coral, FL, Ramey Gorniak and his wife, Lois, of Erie, and Tom Gorniak and his wife, Carol, of Waterford; eight grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Tuesday morning at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Boniface Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m.. Burial with military honors will follow in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
