Genevieve L. Massing Nuber, 96, of Erie, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at St. Mary’s Home of Erie. She was born in Erie, on April 16, 1920, the daughter of the late Ralph W. and Beatrice Bahm Massing.
Genevieve was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School. She went on to work for the Boston Store, Bliley Electric at Union Station, and Breakiron Jewelers. She was a member of the Glenwood YMCA until the age of 85. Genevieve enjoyed reading and bowling.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Gerald “Jerry” Nuber and her granddaughter, Mia Harris.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Verga and her husband Jerry, of Erie; her son, Michael R. Nuber and his significant other, Viola Parker, of Edinboro; her grandchildren, Benjamin Nuber, Gabe Verga and his wife Jennifer, Jesse Verga, and Poco Nuber; her great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Gwen Verga; her sister, Maxine Barninger and her husband Vernon of Erie; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday morning at St. Mary’s Home of Erie, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of a Prayer Service there at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Trinity Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Home of Erie and Great Lakes Hospice for their loving and affectionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Erie City Mission – 717 French St. Erie PA 16501, or for Masses in Genevieve’s memory.
