Nyle W. "Nick"  Estes
Nyle W. “Nick” Estes age 83 of Wattsburg, passed away on Friday June 26, 2015 at UPMC Hamot Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Wattsburg on December 31, 1931 a son of the late Hugh and Mary Kent Estes.
After graduating from Wattsburg High School, Nick proudly served his country in the United States Army. He served during the Korean War where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Upon returning from the service, he went to work in the iron works and later worked construction. For the majority of his working career Nick was a truck driver for MFG and Venango Machine. He was a published author writing many books about frontier life. Nick was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a Conservation Officer for over 32 years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one grandson, Nicholas Estes; two sisters, Iris Estes in infancy and June Hollman; one brother, Lynn Estes and a special sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Estes.
He is survived by his wife Mary “Joey” Proctor Estes; their two children, Nyla Vogel of Wattsburg and Noel (Sandra) Estes of Phillipsville; four grandchildren, Brandon (Maria) Williams of Pittsburgh, Brent Zboyovski of Denver, CO, Parlee (Joe) Ferko of Erie and Noelle Estes of Wattsburg; one great-granddaughter, Sofia Williams; numerous nieces and nephews especially Mary (Gary) Bliss and many special neighbors and friends.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc. 5000 Wattsburg Rd. Erie, 16504 on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, and are invited to a funeral service there on Wednesday morning at 10:00AM. Interment will follow with full military honors at Lowville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Wattsburg Hose Co. 14415 Main St. Wattsburg, PA 16442.
