Obituary for Thomas J. Omniewski

Thomas J.  Omniewski
Thomas J. Omniewski, 62, of Erie, died unexpectedly Tuesday November 9, 2010 at St. Vincent Health Center. A resident of Erie all of his life he was born December 31, 1947 a son of the late Joseph and Eleanor Chrzanowski Omniewski.

Tom was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School and went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War where he received the Purple Heart. He worked at the G. E. for the past 7 years. Previously he worked at Kaiser Aluminum for 19 years and Reed Manufacturing for 10 years. He loved woodcarving and was an avid outdoorsman, especially hunting and fishing. Tom was also the mysterious painter of the People's Boat at the foot of Chestnut Street on the Bayfront Highway.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Lata and her husband Robert; and two brothers in law, Romeo DiFilippo and Willie Hamm.

Survivors include his wife, Tina Wansor Omniewski; two sons, Keith Omniewski and his wife Rym of Alexandria, VA and Jacob Omniewski and his dear friend Colleen Brickner of Erie; two daughters, Tiffani Baumann and Juliet Jones and her husband Jim, all of Erie; six sisters, Patricia Greene of Erie, Jean Martin and her dear friend, Thomas Matos of Erie, Rose Lafferty and her husband Robert of Erie, Rita Omniewski of Erie, Debbie Sandbrook of Ventura, CA, and Carol Hamm of Rockford, IL; three brothers, Joseph Omniewski and his dear friend Nancy Trocha of Las Vegas, NV, Robert Omniewski and his dear friend Gayle Wasyl of Erie, and James Omniewski and his wife Patty of Erie; seven grandchildren; an uncle, Kenneth Kaliszewski; and dear friends, Gary Winnett and Mike Montroy. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road (corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave.) on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to services there on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.. Burial with military honors will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
